The Big Deal About Alphonse Mucha
Monaco Monte Carlo
Dance 1898
Spring 1896
Alphonse Mucha had an impact on different areas of art. He impacted Art Nouveau in a big way. Art Nouveau pretty much started with Alphonse Mucha. Initially it was called Style Mucha or Mucha Style, but soon became known as Art Nouveau. Not only did he draw and paint, but he did advertisements. He was the principle advertiser of the actress Sarah Bernhardt in Paris. An impact he made on graphic design was a self-published handbook of designs for artists. It contained a large variety of "graphic motifs, botanic studies, and designs for articles of jewelry, tableware, and furniture." Most of his motifs incorporated a lot of "fantastical elements of hypnotic lines and Neo-Egyptian ornamentation."
